Glitzy Von Jagger releases "Sharp Dressed Them," and dance music will never be the same! Released on August 2nd, 2024, this cover of ZZ Top's iconic anthem, "Sharp Dressed Them," celebrates gender fluidity and sexual positivity.

With a full vocal chorus replicating powerhouse voice, Glitzy Von Jagger comes in over the top, as was expected! The original ZZ Top smash hit has been reimagined and retooled from its hard rock and gritty guitar sound into an upbeat, soon-to-be classic dance anthem. Utilizing inclusivity and open-heartedness, Glitzy Von Jagger took music to a new level by making it gender-neutral. This performance comes from the creative mind of music pioneer Hackney London and non-binary drag star Glitzy Von Jagger.

When boundaries are broken, and changes are made, we often look back and realize that someone thought of something no one else did, and they are not properly recognized. I hope we all acknowledge this feat, as no one else, to our knowledge, has done this before.

"Glitzy Von Jagger's alter ego is Darren James Day, a Performer/DJ and graduate of Italia Conti. Both Glitzy and Darren have performed internationally and in the UK, including the West End, and presented their own show 'Dance with Me' for Sky" - Glitzy Von Jagger's Team.

Disco and Rock 'n' Roll have similar roots, and this remake captures all the danceability and nightclub-pounding essence a good night out needs. The vocal performance is exemplary and soars over the 80s and 90s disco tech beat. When we heard the kick-ass rap to the middle, this song was a 100% win for us. We caught all the cowbell beats filling the background and the claps that honor the great disco giants of the past. The musical arrangement is fun and upbeat, and we loved the bassy beat that kicked in after the long opener.

The mix, master, and production of this song are crisp, clean, and powerful enough to fill the speakers in your car or favorite nightclub properly. Get off your ass and turn up the volume while helping to let Glitzy Von Jagger educate the world that boundaries are negative and openness and inclusivity, equal love. Stream, playlist, and share Glitzy Von Jagger’s hot new track, "Sharp Dressed Them."

Glitzy plans to create an entire EP of classic songs, reimagined as gender neutral, for their debut album.

Glitzy says “Its high time we revisited these outdated gendered song titles, and made them more inclusive for everyone. Why shouldn’t my gender queer and non-binary family also be able to sing these classics out loud and have them…..”

Membership into Glitzy’s ‘Glitterati’ comes with one simple rule, ‘Be kind to yourself and each other.’ Now… let’s dance!”

Wait, there's more!

We caught up with this exciting and emerging artist, for:

“The Cage” Music Blog, to talk about music and learn more about them.

Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview

When did you start making music? What first sparked the passion for you to create music?

I collected records from as long as I can remember, would obsess over bands and charts and was an avid fan of the hairbrush bedroom mic.

I was always getting mates to join bands I dreamed up, and could never listen to music without imagining myself singing the track, visualising the styling, stage, video. I remember my Nana playing Doris Day and my Mother Cher, I danced in Disco competitions as a kid fully clad in lycra it was so camp and so fun. Music has permeated every part of my life always, I wouldn’t make sense without it.

Can you tell the fans something they might not know about you and why you create music?

I have some of my writing archived in the British Library which I love for two reasons, it makes me sound smart and because I just adore words so much, books were my friends growing up, I read at a high level from a young age thanks to my grandad. I create music as it’s my highest calling, its what I’ve always been guided to do and what my purpose is in this lifetime.

Your new and exciting approach to creating a gender neutral rebrand of songs is wonderful and full of love and inclusivity. Which song has been your favorite song to record in the studio? What about performing live?

My favourite song to record is usually the latest thing I’m working on that sparks joy, I love the newest in crafting art when it all feels exciting and like anything can happen it’s such a buzz. Live I love performing the songs that move people the most, the audiences energy then takes you on a journey.

Have you ever been contacted by any of the musicians whose songs you covered?

I had to get permission from ZZTOP for this track as they wrote it, it was a wonderful stamp of approval when they said yes!

Is any part of your music's message or your personal purpose you feel fans should know more about? If so, what is that element, and why is it so important to you?

Radical positivity, speak only words of kindness to yourself and others your brain and body are listening.

What has been the most motivating force in creating your music?

That if I don’t do this I’ll never be truly happy, soul happy, purpose happy. I couldn’t live with those regrets, I owe it you myself. Creating music is ultimate self love and care for me whilst also making art that others can experience.

Where do you see your sound and artistry heading in the future? Are there any exciting new directions you're exploring?

I can see me going in lots of directions, I love all sorts of music and I especially love when you fuse your favourite sonic landscapes together. Right now Im loving a good 4/4 house beat with a sexy electric guitar, some disco magic and country or latin flair.

Where do you currently reside and what is the live music venue scene like there?

I live in Hackney and it’s brimming with fabulous live music venues my favourite is The Divine in Dalston, iconic Queer venue my personal favourite in this country.

Have you ever been on tour and can you tell us a little about the experience?

I’ve done lots of tours, one was around America 32 states living in the backstreet boys old tour bus, it’s exhausting all of the travel and living out of a suitcase. But I do enjoy the bubble and camaraderie of creatives and it’s always worth it once you’re on stage, that’s when you feel like the luckiest person ever, it’s magic.

Was there ever a time when you emotionally felt, “I can’t do this anymore”? Can you tell us why this happened and how you found the strength to continue?

I was in a children’s home as kid, a lot of abuse at home before that, it definitely took me to very dark places. It’s given me access to a range of emotions which has created empathy and can be utilised for art. It’s taken a lot of healing and hard work, yoga, therapy, hypnotherapy, sobriety, self help books, meditation. The love of a good man, medication for my ADHD and making music have gotten me to a good place.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Love yourself more, people bully you because you’re different and it’s fear based. But it’s their fear, its about them, not you, so ignore them and realise just how much you have to offer to the world and take pride in that.

What is your favorite quote?

The only thing in life you can control is your reaction to things.

How do you feel about social media?

I feel Im looking forward to a time in my career when someone can manage all of it for me so that I can just stay present.

If you could go on any late-night talk show, which would it be? And based on present life, what would be the topic of discussion?

Oh I wish Joan Rivers was still about she was an absolute gas, I love Alan Carr he’d be great. A show that’s relaxed, fun and authentic, not too forced.

Taylor Swift has many breakup-based songs.

How do you feel about writing one based on an ex?

I say let’s go, there should never be rules on creation, and past relationships are ripe for mining. I’ve a few in the bank, you’ll hear them.

When you reach the stage where you have the admiration and respect of other world-known artists, what band or artist would you love to call and say, “Let’s go on tour together”?

Lady Gaga, Rolling Stones, ZZTOP, MUNA, Cher, Madonna

What is the most inspirational thing a fan, or anyone, has told or shown you about your music?

One that comes to mind is some lovely ladies saying I helped them find joy again after their mum had just passed, it was very humbling.
