Fleur Lion just dropped "She’s Gone", and trust us, it’s not just another single. Beneath the haunting melody and razor-sharp lyrics lies a story that hits harder than most. There’s grit in it. Real emotion. And something quietly rebellious that demands your attention.

But where did it come from? What pushed this rising artist to write a song that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable? We got together with Fleur Lion for an exciting interview to delve into the stories and happenings behind the making of this and learn more about the artist in "The Cage" Music Blog and we are excited to share it with you!

Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview:

Hello Fleur Lion, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.

Q. “She’s Gone” carries a powerful emotional message. What’s the core story or experience that inspired this song? Is there one specific person this relates to (no names) or a group of experiences that fueled this emotion?

A. 'She’s Gone' is actually about my time at university, where I had to do a lot of internships. I was still inexperienced and had no idea what the adult world was really like—how harsh it could be. I was treated poorly by my supervisors and colleagues, even though I always did my best. It was extremely hard work, very stressful, and of course, I made mistakes. In the end, I was fired twice and even bullied out of one of the placements. This song is about how, despite all the anger and sadness, I chose to walk away from that toxic environment. Unfortunately I developed a depression after these happenings and I quit school. Those people can say and think whatever they want about me, but I choose my own happiness.

Q. When did you know this particular story needed to become a song, and what was that moment of clarity like?

A. That realization actually came years later. I was watching one of my favorite cartoons, The Boondocks. I always laugh out loud at the characters, especially Granddad. In one episode, he was singing “she gone” in an improvised, funny way, and I found it super catchy. That melody got stuck with me, and I started building a song around it. At first, it felt like a typical breakup song in to me, but that felt too cliché. I wanted to make it more personal. That’s how She’s Gone was born.

Q. You touch on themes of liberation and reclaiming strength. Was writing this song healing for you in any way?

A. Absolutely. I didn’t consciously think about it that way at first, but it definitely became something healing. Not just in relation to my internship experience, but also for many other moments in my life. It’s about walking away from situations that are unhealthy for you, choosing yourself, your peace, and your strength.

Q. Your lyrics feel incredibly honest and raw. Was it ever difficult to put this level of vulnerability into your music?

A. In some cases, when I write a song, I need more time for it. I remember that with She’s Gone, it actually came together more quickly than I expected.

Q. Your music speaks deeply to listeners who have been through emotional struggles. What do you hope they feel when they hear this song?

A. I hope my music gives listeners strength, comfort, and inspiration. That they feel less alone, and that it offers them a moment of escape from a world that isn’t always kind or easy. But more than that, I want my music to help people connect with their deepest self and with others. I’ve noticed that many people act from their ego, which is human and something we all have, including myself. But often, people are afraid to look inward. They live in a kind of denial, sometimes because of things they were taught or conditioned to believe.

Q. What’s one thing fans might be surprised to learn about you, something that doesn’t show up in your music?

A. There are so many things, haha. Ask me a personal question like what my favorite food is or what I don’t like to eat, and I’ll answer that. But one fun fact about me is that I’m a huge theme park and roller coaster lover. I’m also really into Disney and Disney World. Maybe that’s a fun little surprise for my fans!

Q. If you could cover any song from your childhood or early influences, which one would it be and why does it still resonate with you?

A. During my teenage years, I was a big fan of the band Tokio Hotel. I think it would be really fun to cover their song Monsoon because it still resonates with me and brings back a lot of memories from that time.

Q. The music world can be tough. Have you ever faced a moment where you felt like walking away from it all? What kept you going?

A. When I had high expectations but only received constructive feedback, I could feel very disappointed. It was also really hard when I saw other artists achieving success while nothing seemed to happen for me. But music is something deeply rooted in me, and it won’t let me go. I don’t really have a choice to stop. Luckily, I have support from people who believe in me and my music, and that gives me the motivation to keep going.

Q. Looking ahead, what’s next for Fleur Lion? Are there new sounds, stories, or projects you’re excited to share soon?

A. I’m currently working on my next single, which will be even more personal and about my identity. I’m also planning to give new life to one of my older songs and focus more on marketing. On top of that, I’ll be creating videos and reels with my music together with my boyfriend.

Fleur Lion, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
