“I Found A Place In The Woods” by Roxy Rawson is a stunning blend of ethereal beauty and emotional depth, a song that captivates and moves with every note.
Roxy Rawson is a force of creative originality, seamlessly blending the ethereal with the grounded, the delicate with the commanding. Her music, often described as chamber-folk, art-folk, and orchestral folk, transcends labels and invites listeners into a world where shadows and light exist side by side. Born in the UK and raised in a Mormon community,
Roxy’s path to music was anything but conventional. Her early exposure to church hymns ignited a spark that would lead her far beyond the familiar, propelling her to Paris in her late teens, where she studied classical violin and piano at Conservatory Paris VI, immersed herself in jazz, and even sang in an African choir. These formative experiences have influenced her sound, which combines classical elegance with avant-garde sensibilities and an ever-present emotional depth.
Roxy's early musical journey saw her become a part of London’s anti-folk scene, where her unique voice and style quickly garnered attention. Her debut EP Changing Things (2009) earned her critical praise and support from major BBC radio figures like Tom Robinson, as well as accolades from PopMatters and the Independent on Sunday. She performed at some of the UK’s most iconic venues, from Ronnie Scott’s to the Royal Albert Hall, and supported high-profile acts such as Sia. Her early work also caught the attention of Al Mobbs, a producer and label owner, who offered her a development deal with Sony, helping to further her music career.
However, after being diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2012, Roxy was forced to step away from music and focus on her health, spending nearly a decade bedbound. During this time, she not only faced immense personal challenges but also used the opportunity to explore a practice she would later call Compassionate Body Listening, which would eventually play a significant role in her recovery.
Now, after her recovery, Roxy has returned with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper connection to her artistry. She founded Berlin’s Feral Folk Festival to foster a community of experimental musicians, and she continues to support those with Lyme and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a Compassionate Body Coach. Her forthcoming album Bright Star (2026) is a testament to her resilience, offering music that is both uncompromising and exquisite. The lush arrangements on her new single “I Found A Place in the Woods”, crafted in collaboration with the renowned composer Jherek Bischoff, offer a glimpse into this new chapter of Roxy’s journey, one that explores themes of survival, renewal, and self-discovery.
Accompanying the release is a beautiful hand-drawn animated video by Anna Maria Lesevic, which brings the song’s emotional arc to life, visually portraying the story of a woman finding her way back to herself in the depths of the woods.
We’re so excited to have discovered Roxy Rawson’s extraordinary music and can’t wait to hear more from this incredibly talented artist!
