Quiet As A Mouse Makes 'Nostalgia is fine...but…' Feel Fresh, Exciting, And Genuinely Riveting With Fearless Creativity
Quiet as a Mouse's 'Nostalgia is fine...but…' is a fresh and exciting album that allows you to re-experience music in a whole new way, and Quiet as a Mouse uses his immense versatility and creativity to make that experience even bigger.
“Miss Melody” bursts through the silence with a bustling and glowing sound that makes you feel like Quiet as a Mouse was always there and you just realized his presence. What stood out most was his truly genuine vocal delivery, combined with the sensation that he has a story to tell rather than a song to sing. The music is the vehicle. The song's movement was strong and sustained, but shortly into the song he pulls the music back to allow his story to really take off. He took a terrific opportunity to connect with us and create a sense of closeness and familiarity that we didn’t know a song could create. With beautiful lyric construction, he puts forth a delightful phrase:
“You’re a work of art to me / as gentle as bumble bee”
And the flow of the delivery is where the real magic is born. Quiet as a Mouse's powerful yet effortless notes carry far but always feel controlled, with a lofty and casual style. We loved the driving drums and boisterous guitars and how he really shows his versatility.
“Pete Pan” and the accompanying video opens with a wide shot of Quiet as a Mouse and a peaceful yet dramatic ocean and beach backdrop. The sea, although peaceful, was similar to Quiet as a Mouse, who seems to move with calmness and resilience but also has an emotional energy much like the ocean and its power. His expression and locked-in gaze really conveys this, and then the lyrics begin to unfold and further solidify it. As we realize he’s explaining how things like sleep and love can become an addiction, and even directly compares them to heroin, there is no doubt this is a truly deep and intense message.
Through gritty guitars and a flying camera that invoke a loss of balance and possibly even inner turmoil, Quiet as a Mouse grows in intensity and strength, while also carrying a sense of unhappiness and humility. It’s a truly riveting and thought-provoking video that will have you thinking, feeling, and even revisiting the song to find the source of your own pain and determine what our heroin is and where your book will end.
If you enjoy a song that stirs your imagination and lets you connect with yourself, then this is the perfect place for you.
“White Picket Fence” wrapped it all up for us. With a shimmering, bright guitar and a much more intense, high-paced backing beat, this song will make you want to jump around and really dig into it. It’s really groovy and shows another side of Quiet as a Mouse's delivery. The bouncy, bluesy style that supports his varying vocal stylings shows Quiet as a Mouse has no boundaries, is a fearless creator, and has an unending string of ideas to unleash on his audience.
This is really a magnificent grouping of songs, and these three definitely caught our attention, but the entire body of work is even better as one piece, and you will enjoy it as much as we did.
