Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview:

Hello Michellar, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.

Q. We loved “Never Say Sorry.” It is just another amazing work in your most astounding catalogue. The slow but blazing guitars carry the melody right to your beautiful voice. The tender delivery of the lyrics with the sad story of losing love was heartbreaking but also cathartic, and we ate up every word. When did you first realize the power of your voice and creative expression? What moment in your life transformed it from a personal, intimate expression to a tool for sharing your story with the world, ultimately laying the foundation for the powerful career we see today?

A. I realized this voice when I was 15 . I have been writing since High School . When I realized that my stories can connect with so many, I was hooked . I write all the time from thereon…filling journals with imagery , poems, stories, and scripts but not songs. Songwriting all went away for years until it resurfaced in 2023. From July 2023, I wrote every week to find that voice again and hone it to where I am today.

Q. What is "Never Say Sorry" about for you personally and why did you choose the title "Never Say Sorry"? What does it mean in the context of the song’s story?

A. It is a story of Love being restrained for someone who wants to find themselves in another place without you. Restraining those emotions so that hurt cannot be part of the experience is truly hard to do. To convince yourself that there shouldn’t be any apologies for accepting the situation and letting your true love go shows inner strength . To truly Love can mean that Love is never having to say Sorry …. because you understand the person for who they are and that is enough.

Q. We read that you’ve said that you wrote this song from your personal experiences. Was there a particular moment or realization that sparked the writing process?

A. I was thinking about all those romantic experiences I have had in the past . There were times where I was let go by him because I wanted to find myself in this world. When I briefly separated from him ….I decided at the time that I wanted to come back because I realized that if we can both survived this …then true Love will heal everything and there is nothing we cannot face in our future .

Q. The track speaks to finding genuine connections. How do you personally define a "genuine connection" in relationships, and what’s the signal or feeling that you know when you’ve found it?

A. A connection goes beyond physicality. There is an emotional connection when words don’t have to be spoken . Actions speak louder than words. This is true in True Love . When there’s comfort and understanding in each other’s mind, caring for each other can be in its most simple forms of affection like a spontaneous date lunch or a coffee made for you every morning , or that candy you always loved growing up as a kid is bought for you. Simple meaningful thoughtful actions that say I think of you all the time even when it’s not said out loud. Those moments of connections are deep and means more than anything.

Q. This release commemorates your one-year anniversary in music, and we feel we have seen such amazing songs you’ve released. What part of your artistic journey over the past year has left the most impact on you?

A. The part that makes the most impact in this journey are the connections I have made with so many people. The collaborations have been very rewarding . The audience participation when I perform in Open Mics have become a ritual. When it comes to songwriting …. It is the freedom to express the vulnerabilities in those experiences I have had throughout my life . The songs have been cathartic and healing . I have kept them inside me for so long. Sharing them have given me a window to welcome all those who felt the same way as I have in those silent moments.

Q. Collaboration with Tobias Wilson was key to the production of this track. How did you two work together to shape the final sound, and how did his role enhance your vision for the song?

A. Toby has been instrumental in my journey. I am so happy to find someone who I can deeply connect with in my music. With this track and every track, he finds the emotional nuances of each story and brings it to life with the sounds he combines …weaving it into a piece we are both so happy to be proud of.

Q. The track was recorded in San Francisco and produced in Staffordshire, UK. Why was this? How did the different locations influence the final product, if at all?

A. I recorded my demo and vocals in San Francisco and I bounced these to Toby via the internet . We collaborate online through zoom sessions, texts and emails. The different locations didn’t really matter because we are both really connected with each other’s sensibilities. If we find something that needs improvement , we are honest with each other’s work.

Q. Your art exhibit in San Francisco titled HIGH FLOW sounds like a fascinating intersection of music and visual art. How do you see the two art forms complementing each other in this exhibit?

A. Last December I had a similar exhibit showcasing my Paintings with my songs . The cover art paintings were hung on the walls with QR codes of the songs. The title of the show was “ Painting is Music” . The show was extended because there was a good outcome of support from patrons coming to see and participate in the multidisciplinary exhibit. The audience commented on how this type of exhibit had a whole new dimension. Hi-Flo will be a similar show except there will be more work and more recent songs included .

I hope to see some of my audience there. On Artist reception day… I may sing a tune or 2 as a request from the gallery owner.

Q. The performance that will accompany your exhibit seems like a very personal experience. How do you approach live performances, especially when sharing such deeply personal stories through music?

A. I perform intimately in s small venue with an acoustic guitar. It will be similar to my open mics except there will be 10 songs instead of just one..

It will have a living room vibe … enclosed and acoustic.

Q. Is there one song in particular that you feel truly encapsulates where you are in your artistic journey right now? What makes that song stand out to you?

A. There is one song that I haven’t published that encapsulates where I am in my journey. I will be singing this song at my show. The title is “ Lets make Music” … a song similar to a tempo and vibe of a Jason Mraz song.

Q. You’ve said that if love is meant to be, it comes back. Does that perspective apply to your relationship with music too? Have there been moments where the music you created returned to you in a way that surprised or fulfilled you?

A. Yes … if Love is meant to be it comes back with the best feeling in the World. Songwriting came back to me after a 40 year hiatus. I loved it when I first started and I love it even more now…. I dont want to put it down. It calms me immensely in so many ways.

Q. Outside of music, who or what has had the biggest influence on your personal growth or artistic perspective?

A. My mother has been my biggest influence. Even though she has been gone for 50 years… she has instilled me the belief that whatever I put myself into… I will make good . She believed then and I thank her for that.

Q. What is your process for finding inspiration when you’re writing? Does it come in bursts, or do you have a ritual you follow?

A. Songwriting comes in random bursts and /or in writing sessions. “Wildflower” is a song that came to me while weeding the garden one afternoon. This song is to be release in The Spring next year. “The Warrior” came to me after having a really tough day at work. “ Never Say Sorry” came to me in 2 separate writing sessions. In that moment of writing , I felt like I was in a movie thatI have written a script for and by the ending I was crying, literally .

Q. You’ve mentioned that this song speaks to resilience and hope. How do you personally stay grounded and hopeful during difficult moments in your own life?

A. When I get lost in the forest of Life, I pause and look around in silence …so I may find my way out. The solitude brings clarity and purpose. At times , out of curiosity and adventure, I purposefully let myself get lost because the challenge of finding myself .. can be so rewarding in ways that I feel make me a better version of myself. The same goes in my paintings. Those struggles lift me up in one form or another and gives me a perspective so different from where I was.

I guess… you have to scare yourself … to be able to find out who you truly are.

Q. And finally, we can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what's next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We'd love to be the first to share the news!

A. I am working on 2 albums . I plan to release one at the end of the year.

One would be a danceable collection of songs because who doesn’t want to dance. The other would be about life’s journeys in life… the crossroads we all face in one form or another. The parts that scares but teaches life lessons .

Michellar, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
