With ‘Behind the Universe,’ Kamila Csenge creates a fearless, skin-tingling journey where calm beauty and euphoric emotion move as one.
When we heard "The Void," the title almost felt ironic. How could anything from our favorite instrumentalist, Kamila Csenge, feel like it was missing anything? But we quickly realized the title was part of the beauty, because she fills that space with music that immediately creates a soothing, calm beauty. From that moment on, we were on a quest to determine the meaning behind the title. The notes begin by reverberating with a twinkle and feel like a lightning bolt in slow motion. Each note has a purpose and moves your senses. The first word that comes to mind is texture. Floating into the room, the notes hang in your mental cache. They leave a trail of sensation that your mind equates to a physical touch. Soft like velvet, but also cold like a frozen glass. Each creating a different reaction when repeatedly touched. It's the same note, but when they land they even cause your eyes to dart around the room, searching for the origin and end point. This is the height of musical absorption. The cascading reverberation over the gentle beats is absolutely euphoric. As the song progresses, we realized that "The Void" was purposefully meant to convey the opposite. Because music played together requires a complementary touch, and that is where Kamila Csenge sources her beauty. The beauty comes partially from her finding the missing, or "The Void," and inserting the most unexpected emotion and skin-tingling sensations that create the completed blend. We can't find any more ways to compliment Kamila Csenge because her talents, abilities, and the way she expresses her feelings and moods are something otherworldly, but we are absolutely in love with sharing how we feel. How music makes you feel is at the core of its purpose, and this is the pinnacle of feeling absolutely calm and tranquil while simultaneously thrilling the senses and leaving no room for any other stimulus.
"The Metamorphosis" is a quicker and more elusive form of movement. Its rapid pacing places your energy, and as they say in writing, the "setting," as if you are inside a moving object. The progression of sound from the slower opening is almost like a countdown saying we are preparing for takeoff, and the acceleration builds gradually but steadily until you feel like you're lifting off. The notes definitely come from a different spatial perspective. With the sensation that each note begins quietly and ends with greater volume and impact, it's as if the music is traveling at you from far away. The erratic smattering of beats and the guitars that follow feel like a coy and flirtatious moment. The instruments, through their players, are smiling in how content they are to playfully interact. The sensation of endless movement abruptly changes as the bass takes center stage and the beats run wild. The bass is wide and rhythmic while the percussion is driving. Then, from almost complete silence, Kamila Csenge returns and the notes are wide and long. They actually feel like what electricity would represent if it could pulse, grow, and then retreat.
"Kamila Csenge crafts a breathtaking sonic experience that stirs the senses with fearless beauty and elegance."
This work is a brilliant and fearless approach to musical evolution. When we reread the title, it perfectly embodies the work, begging the question: with something so unrestrained and flowing, was the name adopted before or after the song's inception? It makes for an even more intriguing experience for the listener.
"The Point of No Return" is a heavily drum-driven intro that feels like a thriller. The notes pound while she holds back, keeping you in suspense. Waiting on the edge of your seat for Kamila Csenge to enter reminds you just how much her absence, and the sensation of your heart growing fonder, could not be any more real. Once she appears, the payoff reaches the highest levels. This jumping and bouncy style is just more proof that Kamila Csenge has an endless creative imagination.
The only disappointment comes when it ends, because no amount of Kamila Csenge ever feels like enough.
