Kalligary Ignites “Only Fans” With Towering Vocals, Blistering Guitars, And ’90s Fire
“Only Fans” from Kalligary feels like a hit from the past, forwarded into today’s music scene and reimagined into an even bigger classic.
Combining glowing, bright guitars with a seriously dark edge and rhythmic flow felt like it must have been a major engineering undertaking because the end result was such a massive sound. But Kalligary’s talents obviously saw this as no big deal. They landed this sound with precision and beauty, but also with a ton of grit that makes this song a phenomenal pop-rock listen.
Underneath the blistering guitars is a driving beat and wide bass feel that gives “Only Fans” a formidable foundation. When the lyrics entered, the feeling was immediately euphoric. The long-held notes were delivered like an absolute pro, creating a flying sensation that overtook you. Combined with the supporting harmony of “ooooh,” it felt quintessentially ’90s, but reimagined in a way that was truly brilliant.
Kalligary delivers a phenomenal performance on “Only Fans,” pairing commanding vocals, formidable low-end power, and razor-sharp musicianship with an irresistible sense of motion.
One technique that really stood out was the song’s powerful duality. The earlier portions of the song had a slower tempo and, when combined with the vocals, felt like a drifting breeze. But then, in between intricate drum fills, explosive guitars, and a full-throated, commanding vocal display, the whole performance becomes a festival-ready firestorm.
I loved this. It delivered a feeling of never-ending excitement and carefully constructed theatricality. It had me hanging on the edge of my seat while also rushing to memorize the words so I'd be ready to sing along.
The Berlin-based team of frontman Nikolai Konovalov and producer and multi-instrumentalist LukStar creates music that genuinely captivated me. Together, they deliver something electrifying and totally memorable.
On top of all this, I learned that this magnificent team uses real-life inspiration to create music that genuinely connects with people, placing Kalligary high on my list of artists to watch. I think they should be on yours too.
