Formoe’s “Always” is a mesmerizing anthem of raw emotion and cinematic brilliance that demands to be heard.
We recently spoke with the talented Norwegian artist Formoe, whose latest release, “Always,” is taking the global music scene by storm.
This breathtaking track blends lush melodies with a cinematic, atmospheric quality that has quickly gained attention across continents: from Brazil to the U.S., Germany to the Netherlands. It's a song that beckons listeners into a world of raw emotion, capturing both the vulnerability of love lost and the hopeful, transformative moments that follow.
With the debut album The Beginning of the End set for release in Fall 2025, “Always” serves as the perfect introduction to Formoe’s artistry. The song’s evolution, now reimagined in a longer, more immersive version, perfectly encapsulates the artist’s signature style, blending haunting vocals and synth-driven soundscapes that tug at your heartstrings.
But there’s more to it than just the music. The creative journey behind “Always” and the forthcoming album is rooted in universal themes of heartbreak, reflection, and emotional transformation.
Formoe’s collaboration with renowned producers, including Alf Emil Eik (known for his work with A-ha and Secret Garden) and the stunning vocals of June Baltzersen, elevate the track into something truly extraordinary. But how did it all come together? What’s next for this rising star in the Nordic music scene?
We spoke with Formoe about the powerful inspiration behind “Always,” the unique process behind the album, and the exciting future ahead. Dive into the conversation below to uncover more about the artistry and heart behind this remarkable sound.

Begin Interview:
Hello Formoe, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. For the fans meeting you for the first time, is Formoe your given name or a stage name? What inspired you to choose that for your artist persona?
A. Hehe, it’s not the most exciting name, to be honest. It’s actually my last name, and my friends have always called me Formoe. So it felt natural to use it as my artist name. It’s just me – my name, nothing more, nothing less.
Q. The EP explores deep emotional themes such as heartbreak and transformation. How did you approach writing these songs, and did any specific personal experiences influence the music?
A. I draw inspiration from both my own experiences and from the people around me. This theme is practically endless in the world of music. With this particular song, I tried to capture the feeling of heartbreak – that sense of not being able to forget someone. Losing someone can be incredibly painful and all-consuming, and I hope that comes through in both the song and the animated music video that accompanies it.
Q. How does “Always” fit into the overarching theme of The Beginning of the End?
A. The Beginning of the End is an album about life – from beginning to end – and everything that comes with it. On this album, you’ll find songs that deal with heartbreak, like “Always,” but also songs about death, loneliness, emptiness, growing apart in relationships, society’s flawed pursuit of happiness, and the longing for freedom.
Q. What inspired you to reimagine the original version of “Always” and create a more cinematic, album-length version?
A. I originally released a single version in 2024. But with the release of my first full-length album coming up, I wanted to revisit the song and let it unfold in a more cinematic, expansive way that fits the album’s overall mood. The single version was more condensed, while the album version offers a fuller emotional arc. With the instrumental and choral versions, I wanted to show how music can express emotion even without lyrics. You'll see that throughout the album as well — with both lyrical and instrumental tracks.
Q. Could you tell us about the additional versions of “Always,” like the instrumental and the vocal harmonies-only versions? What were you aiming for with those?
A. The instrumental and choral versions are meant to highlight how emotion and atmosphere can come through without words. I wanted the music to stand on its own — to let the mood breathe and speak directly to the listener. This reflects the overall approach of the album, which includes both vocal and instrumental compositions.
Q. What was it like collaborating with the highly accomplished team of Alf Emil Eik and Roar Farstad on the production of The Beginning of the End?
A. It honestly felt like a gift to work with people of this caliber. Alf Emil Eik is incredibly experienced and has worked with international names like A-ha and Secret Garden. Roar Farstad is a highly talented producer who deserves every bit of recognition. Together, they helped me organize my ideas and bring out the best in each track.
Q. June Baltzersen’s vocals really bring out the emotion of the track. How did you come to work with her, and what did she bring to the song?
A. June is a friend and colleague — we both work together during the summer on Norway’s biggest outdoor theatre show, Captain Sabertooth, which has sold over two million tickets since its inception. She’s a talented actress, singer, and dancer, and it’s a joy to collaborate with her. She also sang on my debut single, “Dreams of Yesterday,” released in 2023, and she will be featured on The Beginning of the End as well.
Q. Can you describe the sound of The Beginning of the End and how it blends synthpop with atmospheric elements?
A. The album blends melodic and atmospheric soundscapes with and without vocals. It plays in the space between pop, new-age, synthpop, and electronica. I hope listeners will find it to be a cohesive and thoughtful record that connects emotionally and sonically.
Q. With the album’s release set for Fall 2025, what can fans expect from your upcoming music and performances?
A. There aren’t any specific concert plans at the moment. Like Enya, my music would require many musicians and performers to recreate live, which is something I would love to do when the time is right and the audience is there. For now, I’m already working on the next album and looking forward to several exciting releases ahead.
Q. Norwegian music has its own unique flavor—do you find the Norwegian market different from other parts of the world? Your sound seems to resonate particularly well in Brazil, Germany, and the U.S. Why do you think these countries connected with your music first?
A. That’s a good question — and not an easy one to answer. I know several talented Norwegian artists who find more success internationally than at home. Maybe it’s because Norway has strong scenes in genres like new age, metal, and electronica, which tend to have larger audiences abroad. But it's always exciting to see Norwegian music reach far beyond our borders.
Q. Do you have a favorite song from your early years of listening to your favorite bands—one from a band you’d love to cover in the studio because it still feels deeply connected to who you are today?
A. This might be a bit niche, but I’ve always loved “Dangerous” by Depeche Mode — a B-side from their Violator era. It’s a track with many layers and moods, and it works beautifully in different atmospheres. I honestly hope they play it live someday… just for me 😄
Q. Many artists hit a few walls along the way. Have there been times you’ve questioned continuing with music? What helped you stay committed to your path?
A. Music is my way of disconnecting and recharging. I believe it will always be part of me in some form. This upcoming release is more of a step out from the home studio and into the world — but music has never left me.
Q. How does making music make you feel? Does this EP come from real experiences, and does performing it allow healing – or does it make those emotions resurface?
A. Music helps me process things. Some songs are more personal than others, but even the deeply personal ones feel good to perform. I’m genuinely happy when people tell me they’ve used my music to work through their own emotions — that’s the best compliment I could get.
Q. What are your top 3 dream venues to perform at?
A. It’s hard to name three specific venues, but my biggest dream is simply to travel and perform around the world — to meet the people who connect with my music in different corners of the globe.
Q. Outside of music, who or what has had the biggest influence on your personal growth or artistic perspective?
A. Definitely my family and friends. Meaningful moments and shared experiences with them have shaped both my personal growth and creative outlook.
Q. What do you want people to remember most about you after hearing this song and reading this interview?
A. I hope people see me as a versatile artist with a melodic and emotionally engaging sound. Someone who creates music with depth, atmosphere, and an honest expression that stays with you.
Q. We can’t thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So – what’s next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about?
A. Thanks for having me — I really appreciate it! As for what’s next… I’m already working on new music. And here’s a little secret (just between us): I’ve just submitted the script for a new animated music video for my next single. Don’t tell anyone! 😄
