Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview:

Hello Casey Louis, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.

Q. Stop everything. Your lyrics: "Did you double triple check? You're just a cog in the machine." We are so in love with this album’s lyrics, message, music, vocals, everything! When we heard "Ego," auggh, we love your vocals and swagger; it's all over this album. After experiencing this, we want to know, when did you go from making music in your own world casually to realizing this wasn’t just a passion, but the path, that this could actually be your future as a professional artist in the music industry, or maybe it was just always there and happened organically?

A. Thank you! I put everything into these lyrics. If I’m being honest, making music was never a casual thing for me. Even when I was first getting going, I never treated it as just a hobby, or a pastime. The intention was always professionalism, so it’s been really exciting to progress in my journey and see myself grow.

Q. "The Secret Joke" feels like it holds a world of meaning. Can you take us into the heart of this Album, what does it really mean to you, and what do you hope it sparks in your listeners?

A. This album is an experience that may vary from listener to listener. For me, it’s an exploration on change and identity, and a way to deal with some of those un-answerable existisitential questions we all ask, at one point or another. However, different audiences will definitely have different interpretations of the meaning, and that’s ok. Anything that comes up for you, or anything you feel when listening, is correct.

Q. A title like ‘The Secret Joke’ is bound to carry some weight. What was the moment when you knew this was the right name, and what hidden layers does it reveal about the album?

A. Look, I’m not gonna spell out exactly what I meant by the title. That’s up for you to decide. However, after writing the album, and exploring lots of different titles, this one felt right. I hope you can come to your own conclusions about what it means to you.

Q. LA is a city that’s equal parts dream and struggle. How did your move there push you creatively, did it expose parts of yourself you didn’t know existed? Also how did it compare to where you moved from?

A. Moving to LA was amazing, but it was also a catalyst to really get me off my ass. Everyone out here is hustling, and if I can’t match that hustle, or exceed it, then I know I’ll get left behind. I’ve never been surrounded by so many creatives, so it really jump started my right brain and inspired me to attempt to stand out.

Q. You’ve said this album is a therapeutic outlet. Was there a specific line, chord, or moment that made you think, “I’m finally expressing exactly what I feel”?

A. This project is full of moments that still give me goosebumps, even though I’ve heard it a million times. The outro on ‘Better Off Alone’ is probably my favorite part of the album. The complexities of the recording and mixing, paired with the simplicity of the lyrics, really stand out to me as this albums showstopper moment. It encapsulated everything I wanted this project to be.

Q. Recording in your bedroom studio must’ve felt incredibly personal. How do you think this space affects the end result as opposed to being in a producer's studio? Is it freeing? Harder?

A. It allowed me to be entirely myself. I wrote and recorded this project while completely isolated, and felt no pressure to fit into any box. The experience was purely authentic and true to me, and I can wholeheartedly say that this work is a true extension of myself.

Q. We loved the Panning sounds- it really does make the music feel huge, what was the first moment you realized that this technique could completely change how the listener experiences the songs?

A. After years of playing with different panning methods, I settled on one that really captures what I’m going for. It makes the vocals and different instruments sound huge, and contributes heavily to the feel of the whole project.

Q. “Don’t Fall Asleep” carries a lot of weight about questioning reality. What role does doubt play in your life, and how do you balance it with the certainty you need to create art?

A. Doubt is everything. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for doubt. If I believed everything was attainable, then I have nothing to prove. Doubt is just unrealized motivation.

Q. You’ve poured so much of yourself into this album. When you look back at the journey of making it, what’s the single biggest realization you’ve had about your creative process, or about yourself?

A. I spent most of my early music days dreaming of becoming this larger than life artist, when in reality, I had to realize that I’m the same as everyone else. I’m no better or worse than the next guy, and truly understanding that opened up a world of relatability in my writing and process.

Q. Vulnerability is such a big part of the creative process. Was there a moment where you felt like you were walking the edge, uncertain about what you were putting out there, yet somehow sure it was right?

A. I have a hard time writing about anything pertaining to love, because due to my experiences, it’s never a great situation. It’s important to my story, and I’m getting better at expressing my stories. It’s still hard, and a toll on the soul.

Q. Sharing something so raw must come with its own set of nerves. Now that "The Secret Joke" is out in the world, how does it feel to open up in such an intimate way? Is it a weight lifted or a leap into the unknown?

A. It’s important for me to remember that my audience is generally hearing me for the first time. I’m making a first impression with a lot of people, which is unnerving, but exciting. I’m figuring out the best way to present and portray myself, and the more intimate I can be, the better connection with my audience I hope I can create.

Q. Bokoven and Harry GT seem to have been integral in shaping this project. How did you meet them and what do they bring to the project to really make it fly?

A. These guys are just as responsible for this project as I am. Incredible production from Bo, who I connected with a few years back on social media, and masterful engineering and mixing from HarryGT, who I met when I first moved to LA. A shared vision with these guys resulted in the finished project that I’m so proud of today.

Q. The themes of self-discovery are all over this album. Do you see your music as a guide to help people uncover things about themselves, or is it more of an invitation to explore their own journey?

A. While the music is personal, the themes I explore on this album are true to everybody. This work is not a step by step guide on how to find yourself, but yes, an invitation to ask yourself the right questions, and learn yourself to the best of your abilities.

Q. Now that you’ve created something so deeply personal, what’s it like to step back and listen to the full album as a finished product? Is there a moment or song that still makes your heart skip a beat, even after all the work you’ve put into it?

A. It’s incredible. It’s hard to believe this album has my name attached to it. It’s really fun to put myself in the audience’s shoes, and try to experience it from the ears of someone else. The pride I feel is immense, but I know there’s so much work left. I’ve got lots left to give to music, different stories to tell, and worlds to explore.

Q. Casey, we can’t thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what’s next on the horizon for you? Can you give us a sneak peek into what you're working on and what your fans can look forward to? We’d love for them to hear the news directly from you!

A. I’ve finished writing my next album. I’m almost done mixing it. It’s something so deeply vulnerable and personal, and I’m scared to death to share it with the world, but at the same time, I can’t wait. Stay tuned for that.

Casey Louis, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
