Hypnotic synths, fearless messaging, and electrifying momentum make 'Arsenal of Democracy' impossible to ignore.
The most creative and thought-provoking artist we have experienced to date, Energy Whores enters our world once again with the incredible release of the album Arsenal of Democracy.
We caught the music video for the title track “Arsenal of Democracy,” and the excited synth opening lays out the rhythm quickly, with high energy and a terrific, trippy 80’s sound that sticks with you and refuses to leave your head. There’s a video-game-styled sensation that makes the instrumental a huge win for us. Then the message and essence of the song are revealed immediately with the opening lyrics:
“Calling all the free thinking people of the world”
Believing in humanity’s ability to rise up from our digital stupor, Energy Whores pokes the fire, pushing us to realize we need to open our eyes and revolt. The imagery too rivals a video game, making this a thrilling experience within the first 30 seconds. Spaceships, fighter jets, crowds screaming, and a dog on a rocket ship are proof that no one else delivers a message quite like Energy Whores.
Then we hear:
“We build more bombs to kill more girls and boys”
And instantly we’re struck by how this message needs no Einstein to decipher, yet Energy Whores delivers it from the rooftops, while we still carry on with life-draining lattes and endless, brain-killing doom scrolls, as billionaires practically siphon the blood from our already dragging carcasses. But the way the they presents this subject matter, paired with the imagery, has finally awakened us, and we feel the same will happen for the masses.
The terrific beats and exciting bass tones, layered with horns and cowbell, make this not only thrilling to listen to but the perfect support for the vocal outpouring from Energy Whores. Her shoulder-shrugged imagery really drives home the message, while the vocals land technically hard. Utilizing a hypnotic yet soaring styling, she absolutely nails the performance. The video is undoubtedly filled with Easter eggs and secret imagery, inviting hours of examination that reveal even more. It’s a future cult classic that will make waves among today’s and tomorrow’s free thinkers.
“Hey Hey Hate” has a bouncy, bubbly feel that puts you in a dancing mood while also making you think twice about that next purchase. The rapid-paced, erratic beats and high-placed vocals give the track a clear soapbox warning tone, perfectly nailing the vibe of the ad-agency-styled commercials we all absorb daily.
“Mach9ne” delivers an out-of-this-world cosmic concept sound. The vocals glow, then turn electronic, making it feel as if our world has been commandeered by unseen masters, with lyrics that fully immerse your imagination in that imagery. The laser-styled synths, almost laugh-out-loud dynamic lyrics, and the blunt “too bad” message aimed at humanity’s endless suffering form a perfect encapsulation. The bass here is magical, its rhythmic flow a masterpiece that overwhelms the auditory senses in the most thrilling way.
What we loved about this album is the cohesion of imagery, messages, and ominous storylines, all conjoined with incredible tracks that carry melodies, sounds, and vocals magnificently.
And when the message “magnificent without you” lands as we fully absorb and feel it, it becomes absolute proof that Energy Whores knows exactly how to unravel our brains, and may truly be our hope and salvation.
