“Universe” is a breathtaking, genre-blending triumph that cements Amy Field as a visionary force in music.
Amy Field’s new single, “Universe,” isn’t just a song; it’s an unraveling. With echoes of something cinematic and deeply personal, it hints at a story far bigger than what first meets the ear.
There’s a quiet force behind the track, one that doesn’t shout but simmers, crafted by an artist who has spent years shaping her voice within shadows before stepping into the spotlight. The result is a sound both familiar and strange, intimate yet sweeping, as if pulled from the soundtrack of a film that doesn’t exist yet.
But where did this haunting, bold piece really come from? What moment sparked it, and why does it feel like a turning point?
We went straight to the source to find out. In this interview, Amy opens up about the unexpected origins of “Universe,” the creative alchemy behind the scenes, and what’s coming next in this new chapter of her musical journey.
Read on. The story behind the sound might surprise you.

Begin Interview:
Hello Amy Field, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. For the fans meeting you for the first time, is Amy Field your given name or a stage name? What inspired you to choose that for your artist persona?
A. Yes! Amy Field is my marital name and it felt right to use my actual name. For years I would write names down I liked or came across and I would search for a very long time online to find a name that fit but I soon realised my name, Amy Field, is me and it just feels right.
Q. Can you please tell us about the making of “Universe” and your inspiration behind it, along with the message you are trying to share with your fans?
A. I was in the shower one morning and I started to sing the line “this kingdom I rule, becomes a bother” and it flowed from there, I quickly rushed out of the shower and recorded on my voice notes because it felt powerful when I started to sing this melody. I messaged my friend, Robby Hodgey, I said “give this a listen, tell me what you think” and away from there “Universe” was created! Robby composed and arranged the music.
At first the inspiration behind the song was my mind struggling with reality and not getting what I wanted because of personal struggles. That for me is where the lyrical flow was coming from. The song is about yearning for something unattainable in a world full of possibilities.
Q. Your vocals are absolutely stunning — the styling, intonation, and accent are all so captivating. When did you first realise you had that kind of talent, and was there a moment where you knew it was time to start recording and sharing your voice with the world?
A. Well firstly, thank you! You know what, when I was younger I used to lie about singing. If someone heard me singing I would pretend it wasn’t me. I was very shy and I lost a load of confidence growing up. I didn’t have much encouragement and support and it took me a long time to understand my talent. I have learnt to just feel the emotion and tap into that when I am singing and writing, it’s as if a force is taking over and it feels so good that I roll with it. And I have the confidence in myself to roll with it. I see it being similar to listening to your intuition.
Looking back I wish I believed in myself more but I am just happy I found my place eventually because now I am confident and I am not afraid to sing and share my creations with the world. Funnily I always have been drawn to singing and writing amongst the self doubt and criticism from family. I went to music college when I turned 18, I then dropped out at 22 and went down a path I shouldn’t have. It took all the creation away and I stayed inside most of the time. I eventually saw the light and started writing and recording again but I had lost who I was and what felt right to write about but now seems the time where it’s all coming together. It’s very exciting.
Q. What was the impact on the song after working at Crystal Sound Studios with producer Jack Murphy? How did that environment shape the final track?
A. Jack Murphy is a next level producer, personally, my experience working with Jack, amazing. He gets the tone, he gets the vibe, he just knows what he’s talking about and breathes a new life into the music. We have a laugh but we also just get it done. Working together with Robby Hodgey, I feel so happy to know such talented people.
Q. How did you come to meet and collaborate with the extremely talented group of musicians you’ve assembled, particularly Robby Hodgey?
A. I met Robby 4 years ago through someone else who contacted me via band mix, as they were looking for a singer for their band. We never met the first 6 months but we spoke on video calls and wrote some songs together, through the online world. That band came to an end but I remember thinking I’m gonna wait for Robby to contact me, I just knew he would and prayed he would! Because I really wanted to work with him. He’s so talented and I love his vibe. Eventually a week later he phoned me and said, “look I’m thinking of getting a band together you wanna be the singer?” I was like, “yes, yes, yes!!” relief haha. The band is called In Situ which is alternative/rock. We have just finished recording two songs at Crystal Sound studios.
Robby always helps out others whenever he can with other musical stuff they’ve got going on so when I asked him if he’d collaborate with me on some solo stuff of mine, again, I was over the moon!
Q. "Universe" was born from a spontaneous moment, written in the shower and captured in a voice memo. Can you walk us through how that spark evolved into the finished song we hear today?
A. After that, I put the song to my guitar with basic chords and I wrote the verses. But I knew there was a deeper level to be unlocked. So I hoped Robby would be into the song and he eventually put a demo down of what he heard. But this was a year or so after I initially wrote the song in the shower! I think I felt a push to do more with the song.
The vibe he put into this song, the ringing out guitar, western vibe, captivated me and his solo! I can’t describe in words how much I love that part of the song! He definitely unlocked that deeper level!
The second verse was never finished enough for me, so on the morning of recording, I wrote the second half, “Silent snipers in the night, never been one to brave, when I’m face to face, I go and give it away” it came to me and I rolled with it and they are my favourite lyrics of the song!
Q. What was the inspiration that made you land on the cinematic, James Bond-style sensation that fans are now buzzing about? Was that an intentional direction or a happy accident in the production process?
A. That was a happy accident! In the studio Jack said he heard Quentin Tarantino vibes and I was like yes! Roll with that! Then hearing James Bond vibes from people just made my dreams come true even more because both of those are some of my movie favourites!
Q. Your music is influenced by a dynamic range of artists, from Eminem to Brandi Carlile. How do these seemingly different influences find common ground in your songwriting and sound?
A. It’s all about the passion in the lyrics and the raw authentication these artists produce. Eminem, his lyrics have always been an important focal point for me for inspiration, how unapologetically raw he is. This inspires me to be real but stay creative with what I want to sing about. Brandi has that gorgeous flavour of soul and beautifulness from her lyrics to the way she sings. It’s from the heart, again I get so much inspiration from her captivating vocals alongside what she is saying.
Q. You’ve described “Universe” as being about yearning for something just out of reach. How personal is that theme for you, and what does it say about where you are emotionally and artistically right now?
A. This song means so much to me because it draws a lot from my past. I struggled a lot with confidence and who I was as a person because I was so torn from a young age, knowing I wanted to sing, but it always felt like I wasn’t allowed or I shouldn’t want to do that with my life. So for me this song has helped me overcome those barriers and it reminds me of where I’ve come from. I am so different to who I once was, no longer hiding my true nature. I now am very open and I am not afraid to speak my mind. I hope someone listening might find strength they’ve been looking to find within themselves. Or at least it reminds us that we can all find it hard to speak up and reach for the things we want to achieve in this life but we shouldn’t feel shamed to do so.
Q. Every artist hits a few walls along the way. Have there been times you questioned continuing with music? What helped you stay committed to your path?
A. Yes I definitely have felt at times when I was younger, should I continue, and when I feel down but the more I continue to write and sing, I know in myself that why I continue to perform and write music, is because it makes me feel good. I feel so amazing when I’ve wrote a song and then going to record in the studio and hearing this produced track that gives tingles all over my body, that is why I do it, because I feel amazing and so proud of myself, it makes me happy.
Also working with different people and meeting new people helps me feel connected and supporting each other helps keep me motivated.
Q. Do you have a favorite song from your early years—one you'd love to cover in the studio because it still feels deeply connected to who you are today?
A. I remember seeing Alicia Keys in her music video on the television when her single ‘Fallin’’ came out and I thought, that’s what I want to do. I asked my dad who she was and how could I be like her. The answer was uninspiring and looking back, I now tell myself of course I can, it’s all up to me. The soul and the groove from that song moves me and I’d love to cover it!
Q. You’ve performed and recorded with your band In Situ and are now stepping into a solo spotlight. How does the creative process differ for you between those two worlds, and do you prefer one over the other?
A. I love both! I love working with the band, creating something together which can feel magical and it’s so fun in the room together but I also love writing music at home that I know fits my solo artistry. But as well I may write a song at home and take it to the band because I can hear the vibe of In Situ in it. They are both the same though you know, as long as I’m writing music and singing that’s all that matters to me.
Q. “Universe” blends emotional storytelling with cinematic soundscapes. When you write, do you picture visuals or scenes in your mind, like a film score, or does the music guide the imagery after the fact?
A. Both can happen. I get a vibration inside, sometimes in my chest and gut and I can see images. I feel the music and what I’m singing but that can change once a different piece of music has been added. But it’s great working with people that can hear a similar vibe/ see similar visuals.
Q. You mentioned having multiple collaborations in the works across different genres. What’s something you've learned from stepping outside your usual musical style, and has it changed how you approach your own songwriting?
A. I’ve learnt that I should do it more, I love learning from other people and gaining different approaches to how they work. It’s great to mould that into your own way of working.
Listening to others is hugely important when songwriting and not being precious about your work helps!
Q. We can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what's next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We'd love to be the first to share the news!
A. More solo songs are in the works and I will be gigging very soon with my solo project! Possibly a music video for Universe as well! If you follow me on the socials you can find out when I am next performing live and I’d love to see you there! Also look out for In Situs new releases! And thank you so much!
