An emotionally rich, sonically luminous standout that proves MatAre is operating on an entirely new level.
Big fans of MatAre already, we were fired up for this latest release, and it absolutely delivered. “Attach Your Memories” has all the essential markers of a dream pop standout, and it had us hooked from the very first note.
There's a breezy melancholy baked into the track that instantly pulls you in. From the opening synth wash, cool and ethereal, the mood is set. Then, without hesitation, MatAre slips in with a softly reverberated delivery of the title lyric, “Attach Your Memories,” grounding the soundscape in something tender yet haunting.
Following that, the refrain breaks open into an energetic chord progression that flips the tone on its head. The guitar notes chime with bright urgency, supported by a punchy beat that urges you to move. It’s a gorgeous tension: the rhythm drives you forward while the shimmering textures cling to something bittersweet. That interplay between dreamy introspection and full-body euphoria is what makes this track land so hard. There’s a clear nod to the sonic palette of ‘90s new wave, but the crisp, detailed production makes it feel completely of the moment. MatAre came in swinging and didn’t miss a beat.
The lyrical moment that hit hardest came with:
“Will there ever be a time where our paths don’t just cross / but they end together”
Not only did we love this lyrical expression, and it really invoked deep thought, but that single line reroutes the emotional arc of the track. It slices through the lush instrumentation with a weight that feels deeply personal and heartbreakingly human. It adds dimension while still amplifying the energy. This emotional pivot is nestled right inside the melody.
That duality, the emotional gravity within an otherwise uplifting sound, is something MatAre handles with razor-sharp instinct.
Instrumentally, “Attach Your Memories” is stacked with layers that evolve as the track builds. The drum fills are textured and dynamic, pairing finesse with drive to keep the rhythm relentlessly engaging. Guitars shimmer high in the mix, glowing with a radiant, almost nostalgic energy. And tying everything together is MatAre’s vocal performance, unfussy and laid-back, yet charged with a cool, magnetic intensity. It’s casual on the surface. Underneath, there's a turbulence that gives the track its edge. The result is a magnetic and beautiful fusion: sleek and chaotic, effortless and emotionally raw.
From a production standpoint, it’s airtight. The mix is clean, balanced, and crystal clear, with every element getting room to breathe. It sounds like it could be ripped from a major label release. Yet, it still clings to that personal, indie authenticity that makes it stick. Every sound choice feels deliberate. Every texture is intentional.
This release marks a major moment for MatAre. “Attach Your Memories” already feels iconic. It sounds like it’s been living in our heads for years, but somehow still feels brand new. It’s a track that fits seamlessly into MatAre’s sonic universe while still pushing his sound further. We were completely pulled in by this performance, and the track’s styling fits his skill set like a glove.
We’re proud to be in MatAre’s orbit. Every new drop feels like another level up, but this one is a full-on leap. If you haven’t tuned in to MatAre yet, “Attach Your Memories” is the time.

“Attach Your Memories” by MatAre is a euphoric, emotionally charged masterwork of dream pop perfection.
MatAre, real name Matt Rousseau, is an Atlanta-based artist who carves out immersive, emotionally intelligent dream pop with a fiercely independent touch. While he handles writing and production solo, his work is anything but insular. He collaborates with session drummers like Italy’s Francesca Pratt. Together, they build sonic landscapes that blend natural warmth with digital coolness. Much of this sound is shaped by his production sessions along the Florida coastline near Siesta Key. The beach’s golden-hour vibe seeps into his work and gives even the most bittersweet themes a kind of glow. Inspired by the likes of Paradise Blossom, Sea Lemon, and Grazer, as well as legacy icons like The Cure and Depeche Mode, MatAre draws from a deep well. Still, he creates something wholly his own. His music walks the line between simplicity and emotional depth. It’s a balance he’s clearly mastered, especially on the upcoming album Extinction Burst.
We’re so excited to have found him and can’t wait to hear more from MatAre!
