Here’s how it went:
Begin Interview:
Hello Tim, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. Your style and presentation are amazing. Your sound is really unique, and it’s clear you've cultivated something distinct. Is this particular musical style something you’ve always embraced from the very beginning of your journey, or has it evolved over time from influences or other genres you experimented with earlier?
A. No, I’ve always listened to music though but I didn’t start making music until I was 25 and it was out of the blue. But I will say my touch of music probably comes from writing I think I’m pretty good at writing stories I real good at English
Q. Your vision of yourself seems to have an intense connection to both material and emotional imagery. How do these two elements, like the rims on cars and the gold in your teeth, help tell the story of Solo?
A. Imaging having some haters or whatever it is or just simply making your first couple of bucks and you had previously told somebody that you would be better in life soon or get something new whether it’s some shoes or car or whatever and you really do it. Thats how it feel you already know how you feel inside you smiling ear to ear when you pull up in your neighborhood you gotta stunt on em
Q. What does the concept of ‘growing up with nothing’ while still dreaming of wealth and success mean to you personally, and how does it influence the music you create?
A. It means everything to me it’s my whole life literally it’s what I am like roots under a tree or some flowers. Coming from nothing makes you want something and I wanted something naturally too regardless not just because I grew up poor so it made hungrier Coming from that influenced my music watch city of god and you’ll get a better understanding
Q. You describe Solo as an essence of "how I feel about coming to age." What was a pivotal moment during your transition into adulthood that shifted your perspective the most?
A. My sophomore year of Junior college I kinda realized I needed to do something different I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur but I didn’t know what I wanted to own or sell and kept thinking about it
Q. The imagery of sitting in class while thinking about "Pink" is powerful. Is there a specific moment in your life that you felt like you were ‘drawing’ your past, present, and future the way you describe in Solo?
A. Yeah, honestly through the whole process. I kept thinking about it and just picturing my lself sitting in class again with the old note book that’s mostly black and got spots of white in it. I pictured that and it saying Pink on it with my thoughts and doodles in it and all on the front cover of the notebook
Q. You’ve referenced your desire to create something unique, “a new language and sport,” we definitely felt this essence. Can you elaborate on what you mean by that, and how does it influence the sound and feel of “Solo”?
A. I feel like when you do music people expect it to be like easy to understand, which is true. But I feel like you don’t always have to understand what you like which kinda makes you understand it still. I just think it doesn’t always have to make sense,… just music. There just sounds you know, you can make whatever you want up. Like a new language or seeing “Shammgod” for the first time
Q. The idea of having “Topanga” as part of your vision, how does that character represent the things you value or dream about, beyond just a nostalgic figure?
A. She’s the golden ticket. She’s like the bridge between things I don’t have to work for and things I do. She’s a piece in the puzzle. When you young girls like you effortlessly but when you get grown you gotta earn they love back while trying to earn your life too. She’s like my original life
Q. You mentioned São Paulo as an image in your mind when thinking of Solo. What is it about that specific location that resonates with the way you approach your art and identity?
A. If you ever watched the movie City of God then I think you’ll kinda feel where I come from it takes place in São Paulo. I feel like one of the kids in that movie
Q. Your mixtape Pink seems to be more than just a collection of songs, it feels like a personal diary or story. How important is storytelling in your music, and do you view Solo as a chapter in that story?
A. I actually do view solo as a chapter in my life I view it as me being a young athlete going to the league and getting to show the Pros and the people who work for their league what they got and showing them their here to stay. I know it is story telling but when I write a song I see pictures or scenes from events or movies. I know it’s storytelling but that’s what I see as if I’m like literally in that moment myself like not writing a story it’s as if I am the story or in it or in the situation/event
Q. In a world where so many artists collaborate, you’ve emphasized that you write and produce everything yourself. How does working solo influence the way you express your thoughts and emotions through music?
A. It gives me a lot of creativity and vulnerability to say what I want to say and how I feel. And I love it as well because of those reasons
Q. If Solo is a part of you that you indulge in, what do you think it gives you back in return? Is it cathartic, a form of self-expression, or something else?
A. Treasure, like pirates treasure
Q. What do you want people to remember most about you after hearing this song and reading this interview?
A. I’ma coo MF
Q. Now that your fans have had a chance to learn more about your project, we want to dive into something that’s just as important, your name. For those meeting you for the first time, is Tim your given name or a stage name? As we’ve seen, your fans are sure to become deeply invested in your music, and they’ll be curious about the meaning behind everything that makes up your artistic journey. So, when it comes to your artist name, how does it connect with the music you’re creating? What’s the story behind it, and what does your name represent to you and to the fans who are just getting to know you?
A. My music is me it’s just parts of who I am I feel like. But I did kinda put definition in my name when I turned like 22 I started to say “Trust in myself” but that’s just a little reminder for me that I’m the man
Q. And finally, Tim, we can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what's next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We'd love to be the first to share the news!
