Televised Mind just released "National Hero," and we couldn’t be more excited to dive into it! This is our first time experiencing their music, and honestly, we’re shocked we hadn’t discovered them sooner. It’s time to give them the recognition they truly deserve!
Of course, we headed straight to their official YouTube Music channel to experience the highly anticipated lyric video, in English and Spanish (nice touch!), and let’s just say, it’s one hell of a trip.
From the very first second, "National Hero" bursts with high-energy intensity. The chiming guitars immediately grab your attention, while the drumming, courtesy of Lloyd Hubbard, is pure, unrelenting fire, like it’s straight rocket fuel. Ste Real’s vocals have an incredibly commanding presence, an authentic and raw force that’s impossible to ignore. His vocal signature and cadence are both intriguing and electrifying. What we absolutely loved about this track was how the lyrics hit with full force, blazing fast, exhilarating, and packing a powerful message straight into the hearts of listeners.
A standout moment comes with the lyrics:
"Another verbal assault / I ain’t got time to spare / Told me that I’m finished / Used to say I was the one / Not a care in the world / And she gazed into the sun / Not getting what you want can be the best thing / Your comfort and will kill you / ‘Cause life is just a dream."
These words are nothing short of phenomenal. They deliver a compelling message, urging people to get off their ass and truly experience life for what it is. Not only is the meaning powerful, but the way these lyrics are delivered, with perfect clarity and raw intensity, is outstanding. It’s an unforgettable listening experience.
The musical arrangement is just as exhilarating. The guitars, played by Ste Real, Ben Brophy, and Lloyd Hubbard, create an indelible sound that lingers in your mind long after the song ends. The drumming is absolutely relentless, making you feel like you’re racing down the highway at 100 mph. James Clay’s basswork lays down a solid foundation, giving the track a thunderous backbone, while Tayte Nickols’ banjo adds an unexpected yet killer layer that makes the song even more unique. Televised Mind knows exactly how to craft a thought-provoking, emotionally charged performance.
One of the song’s most jaw-dropping moments happens halfway through. There’s an interlude followed by a dramatic stop-break that proves this band isn’t just exciting, they’re mind-blowing. Just when you think they’ve reached their peak, they push the limits even further, layering in a ballad-style interlude before launching into a thunderous, climactic crescendo. It’s at this point that you realize, this band isn’t just making music. They’re orchestrating an experience.
Televised Mind is a literal rock orchestra, and "National Hero" is a must-hear. Do yourself a favor, add this band to all your playlists immediately!
Hailing from the UK, Televised Mind blends the pulse of post-punk with a fresh indie edge, crafting tracks that are as infectious as they are profound. Their sound is a dynamic collision of high-energy instrumentation and evocative lyricism, creating an immersive experience that lingers long after the final note. With themes exploring loss, resilience, and unrealized potential, their music doesn’t just entertain, it resonates on a deeper level.
Fronted by the visionary Ste Real, who began penning songs in 2021, the band has swiftly made waves in the scene. Their creative force extends beyond just their songwriting, with production helmed by the award-winning Tayte Nickols at Mad Fox Studio in Preston. Mixed by the renowned Sugar House UK, known for working with acts like Corella and Larkins, and mastered by Robin Schmidt, their music carries a polished yet raw intensity that sets them apart.
Their momentum has been undeniable, earning them airplay on BBC Introducing and Sirius XM’s The Underground Garage, as well as a premiere from BBC 6 Music’s Amy Lamé. One of their most standout moments? Their music soundtracked halftime at a Lincoln City vs. Peterborough United match, resonating with an audience of over 10,000 attendees.
For fans of The Drums, Idles, Fontaines DC, and Royel Otis, Televised Mind offers an electrifying post-punk performance that is both invigorating and thought-provoking. Their message is clear, step outside your comfort zone, embrace life’s unpredictability, and experience every moment to the fullest.
