Indie shoegaze band, Tunnel lead by Natasha Janfaza, prepares to embark on their South by Southwest debut backed with the release of their new EP Ampersand. With an unofficial performance at Arnold House on March 11, while the official showcase at SXSW is on March 12 at Low Down Lounge. Ticket Information Here.

Following the band’s debut 2022 album Vallina, Tunnel returns with Ampersand, a three track EP, featuring credits from Brendan Canty and Joe Lally of Fugazi, specifically on the title track, Ampersand. Canty lays down drums throughout the entirety of the project. Carrying along producer Owen Wuerker, who produced Vallina, the new EP seeks to uncover heavier sonic textures than previously heard on 2022’s Vallina.

Drawing further into noisy textures that are laced with unwinding passages of heavy distortion that carry an euphoric catharsis. Ampersand carries a weight throughout its short runtime that welcomes noise and grit to the band’s signature indie shoegaze.

Led By Natasha Janfaza, a classically trained violinist with a tendency for penning indie tinged songs that are reminiscent of songs that would fit seamlessly into a film where the good and the bad are intertwined, whether you like it or not. Fans who are interested in following the development of a band that explores 90’s indie shoegaze backed with cathartic guitar driven choruses chalked with hazy synths, Tunnel’s debut showcase at SXSW is where you need to be.

Ampersand EP gives a taste of what the upcoming full-length feels and sounds like,” shares Tunnel’s Natasha Janfaza. “It’s an exploration of dynamics—unabashed confidence, tender love, and the unraveling of apathy. I felt freer making this than ever before.”

Following the band’s debut SXSW showcase, Tunnel plans to tour the West Coast starting this March, bringing their blend of unconditionally hazy and noise driven sound with Ampersand. To keep tabs on Tunnel, the relevant links are below, stream the new Ampersand EP here.
