"RAINGIRL's 'My Protector' is a breathtaking tribute, where delicate melodies and raw emotion blend effortlessly."
RAINGIRL released her debut single, "My Protector", a deeply moving and beautiful tribute that is sure to resonate with listeners from all walks of life. With its lush instrumentation and emotional depth, the song is an evocative portrayal of the unbreakable bond between sisters. The piece features warm, expressive piano melodies, delicate violin strings, and soothing, ambient pads that create a sense of intimacy and comfort, reflecting the feelings of love and protection that define the track’s inspiration.
On the production side, the engineering truly shines. The sound is clean, crisp, and polished without sacrificing the song’s natural, organic feel. The violin, played in a low-volume, slow, and relaxed style, is given space to soar, its gentle tones flowing beautifully through the mix. The subtle rise and fall of each note is gracefully layered, allowing the violin to remain distinct yet perfectly harmonized with the piano and ambient pads. The mix and master are expertly handled, keeping the track’s flow cohesive and ensuring every element feels intentional.
At its core, "My Protector" is more than just a song; it’s a heartfelt thank-you to RAINGIRL’s older sister, someone who has been her constant pillar of support and understanding throughout her life. The instrumental arrangement allows RAINGIRL to convey this message of gratitude and devotion without the need for words, letting the music speak volumes where language falls short. It’s a perfect example of how instrumental music can capture deep emotions with a simplicity that feels raw and authentic.
The way "My Protector" opens RAINGIRL’s upcoming EP, Letters From My Youth Pt. 1, sets a powerful tone for what’s to come. There’s a sense of vulnerability in the composition, but it’s balanced by a quiet strength that underscores the resilience of the relationship it honors.
Through her skillful use of orchestral textures and electronic elements, RAINGIRL creates an atmosphere of warmth and safety that mirrors the protection she’s received from her sister for over two decades.
With this impressive work, we feel this artist is definitely going places, and we will certainly be keeping an eye out for more from the very exciting RAINGIRL

Begin Interview:
Hello RAINGIRL, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. We love your artist name. What inspired you to choose that for your artist persona?
A. So my artist name RAINGIRL has quite a funny story to how it came about, I was studying music at college and a song by Yaeji that came out, called raingurl and I couldn't stop listening to it when it first released. I was getting all my friends on the course to listen to it and after a while they got sick of me and started calling me "the raingirl" as a bit of a joke, but it stuck and is now my artist persona!
Q. As a teaser description, what would you tell someone about this song to intrigue them about its meaning and get them interested in listening to it?
A. I think my protector, while about my love and admiration for my sister, could also be a love song to anyone you have who you feel that sense of safety with in life, a partner, a best friend, a parent, a pet, a sibling etc. While it's an instrumental piece, the meaning crosses boundaries to me and can mean anything you want it to mean.
Q. Where do you start the production of your music, i.e., in a home recording studio or with an outside producer? How do you finalize your finished work, i.e., self-mixed/mastered or another source?
A. The production of my music, starts in my bedroom like a lot of producers nowadays. I have a close friend who gets the roughest of demo's sent to her at all different times of day and once I have her honest opinion, I know whether it's worth continuing to build, which is exactly what happened with this song, it had the rough structure, which I then built on. For my protector and the rest of my upcoming EP, I worked with UK based producer Lewis Morter for the mixing and mastering.
Q. You’ve mentioned that “My Protector” is a thank-you to your sister for 23 years of love and care. Was there a particular moment or memory when you felt this song needed to exist as a tribute?
A. I wouldn't say there was a particular moment or memory, more so a collection of stories. She's always been someone that I know has my back and despite our 10 year age difference, she's the closest person to me. I used to be a bit of a mean younger sister, I remember once having an easter egg hunt with her and she found my favourite chocolate, I was about 6/7 and rugby tackled her for the egg, she didn't get angry or anything and she still finds it funny to this day and I think that sums up my sister and our relationship. I'm eternally grateful for her.
Q. Instrumental music can often evoke emotions without words. What was it about this story that felt like it needed to be told through an instrumental piece rather than lyrics?
A. I worried if I was to add lyrics to this piece, that it would run the risk of becoming corny or preachy so to speak, I also wanted people to be able to add their own meaning to the song. Like I said earlier, this doesn't strictly have to be about sibling love, it could be anyone important in your life that you think of when listening, if I added lyrics, people may not have been able to interpret it their own way.
Q. There’s such a sense of intimacy in the production of "My Protector." How did you decide on the blend of piano, pads, and violin to evoke that feeling of safety and emotional depth?
A. I've become a big fan of instrumental music myself recently, specifically finding an interest in the classical genre and this song was built on the sample of kids playing you hear at the very start and that inspired the piano melody which sounds a bit disjointed as if a small child was playing it for the first time. Then came the pad and lastly violin, which was my friend and collaborater Alex Semeniuc's contribution to this song. I tried to make all the instruments sound collective, warm and safe, just like how my sister has made me feel throughout childhood.
Q. Your debut single serves as the introduction to your upcoming EP Letters From My Youth Pt. 1. Can you share what emotional or thematic journey the rest of the project will take us on?
A. My upcoming EP Letter From My Youth Pt. 1 is mainly about the journey you go on as a person in your early 20's. It's a time period full of trials and tribulations and truly finding yourself, it's your first time being a proper adult in the big wild world and that is so scary! So my EP aims to help tell the stories of me as a newly formed adult and hopefully people can relate when they hear it!
Q. You’ve cited influences like FKA Twigs, St. Vincent, and Paramore. How do you see those artists’ unique qualities reflected in your music, especially in the personal nature of “My Protector”?
A. The main inspiration for My protector out of these artists was FKA Twigs, the way she uses piano, violin and even her voice in the instrumentation of her music is so moving and inspiring. There's so much though that goes into her music and performance, specifically her song "Cellophane" it is one of the most beautiful songs I think I have ever heard and while it has lyrics, the instrumental landscape she created could've quite easily encapsulated the personal message she wanted to convey. So FKA Twigs was definitely the main inspiration behind the vulnerability on My Protector.
Q. There’s a quiet power in “My Protector,” as it’s both a personal reflection and an open invitation for listeners. What do you want listeners to take away from this track, especially someone who may be hearing your story for the first time?
A. I want listeners to take away the importance of family and friends from this track and from hearing my story for the first time. I think it can be so easy to get caught up in your own head and worrying about life for example but my protector at it's core forces you to slow down and appreciate what you have and how fortunate you may be.
Q. Growing up with a sibling who’s been a protector must have influenced how you view relationships. How has this bond with your sister impacted the way you connect with others, both personally and creatively?
A. It definitely has and I think creatively I definitely like to get to know any of my collaborators personally, what drew them to making music, what their story is etc. In my personal relationships, I always look for people that I feel genuinely have my back and vice versa, I think having such a solid foundation in my sister has made it so I won't settle for less in other personal relationships.
Q. The title Letters From My Youth Pt. 1 evokes a sense of storytelling. What role does memory play in your songwriting process? Is it more about capturing the emotion, the specific moment, or both?
A. I think it is a mix of both, songwriting to me has always been a way to work through my emotions and sometimes, especially with some of the topics I cover on my upcoming EP, at the time they happened you may not release how much it affected you, but as you grow and mature, you look back through different lenses and that's where I think emotion in my storytelling can outweigh capturing the specific precise moment. However there will be times where I make a song about how I feel in that specific moment in hopes to capture that event or part of my life as it is.
Q. As an artist starting with such a personal track, do you feel any vulnerability in sharing these deeply intimate stories through your music? What has the experience of releasing “My Protector” taught you about expressing yourself through sound?
A. I think it's definitely scary releasing music professionally for the first time anyway and that is something I have felt during this process. You're essentially opening up an intimate part of yourself for anyone and everyone to interpret, judge and critique and that is so scary! However, as a music fan myself, I know how important connection is and this is what I hope to achieve with My Protector and my upcoming EP, if even one person connects with it, then I've done my job as an artist.
Q. Many artists hit a few walls along the way. Have there been times you questioned continuing with music? What helped you stay committed to your path?
A. Definitely, I think self doubt would be the biggest one, I can struggle with negative inner thoughts and voices, which my close friend who I mentioned earlier calles my gremlins and they really do affect how I view myself and my music. Whether it's worth pushing through and continuing or if I should just give up. But without sounding cringy, there's a fire in my belly and a need for me to do this, music is my first love and I don't think I could leave that behind.
Q. Do you have a favorite song from your early years of listening to your favorite bands—one of your favorite artists you'd love to cover in the studio because it still feels deeply connected to who you are today?
A. That's a really great question. I think "Cellophane" by FKA Twigs would be a beautiful song to cover, whether I'd do it justice or not is another thing. There's also a track by Rina Sawayama called "Chosen Family" that I think one day I'd like to put my own twist on. However, if were going back to my childhood, I'd maybe say "All The Things She Said" by t.A.T.u would be a cool cover too.
Q. What are your top three wish-list venues to perform at?
A. The 02 in London has to be the top, that was the home of my first live concert and one of my favourite venues. The Roundhouse in London is pretty cool too, if we're going crazy dreams and talking about overseas then maybe Madison Square Garden in New York. I'm putting it out into the universe.
Q. Outside of music, who or what has had the biggest influence on your personal growth or artistic perspective?
A. Obviously my sister has greatly and my friends, I have such a good support system within my friendship group and I often say that I'm rich in life because of that. I've grown a lot through their encouragement and their unconditional love and support for me. But I would also say film has been a big influence on me in recent years, I love seeing how filmmakers approach telling a story, for instance last year I saw Sean Baker's - Anora and thought that was incredible and he approached in such a different way to how I would've as a songwriter. It's cool to see everyone's approach to life.
Q. And finally, what’s next? We can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We’d love to be the first to share the news!
A. Yeah of course! So next for me will be another single, that I am just in the process of wrapping up recording on and then my EP! Which I'm super super excited for, it'll be a collection of 5 songs, including my protector, which tells the story of what I've been through so far in my life at 23.
RAINGIRL, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
