OB1.Obi caught our eye with two releases, “No Be 419” and “No Breaks,” and they were so good we were glad we didn't stop at just one.
“No Be 419” by OB1.Obi showed us that he is the next big thing in music, and his fusion of rap, pop, and rhythmic Afro R&B is electric and everything we needed right now.
Be careful because one listen to “No Breaks” will leave you feeling infected in the best way possible. This tracks musical support is definitely one half of what has us truly excited. Right off the bat, the bass has a flow that's smooth and invigorating, but also feels thick, connecting the synth sounds together, making the beats feel like trickling percussion falling onto the track with brilliance. But for sure it's the track's fallback moments, where OB1.Obi has a chance to vocally slide back into the forefront of your mind, that bring the real impact behind this incredible track.
OB1.Obi's entry into the release is where everything reaches the next level. He is already a visionary performer whose silky smooth yet commanding vocals are euphoric and captivate the listener. This all feels very intentional through the production choices that add a delicious layer to the song. From the measured approach of the hanging synths in the opening that create angst and tension for the listener, to the floating synths and the ricocheting bursts flying past your ears, everything highlights OB1.Obi in a way that lets you experience his full artistry.
