Niall Horan has released the Heartbreak Weather (5-Year Anniversary Edition), featuring eight bonus tracks. This special edition includes two previously unreleased songs, two stripped-down versions of fan favorites, and four live recordings.
The album, originally released on March 13, 2020, is Horan’s sophomore solo effort. At the time of its release, it debuted at No. 1 on both the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart and Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart.
Coinciding with the onset of COVID-19 lockdowns, Heartbreak Weather’s release meant Horan’s planned tour had to be canceled. However, he recently wrapped up a tour for his third album, The Show, where many Heartbreak Weather tracks made it onto the setlist.
Reflecting on this in a recent social media post, Horan shared, “It wasn’t until last year that I finally got to see you all sing these songs back to me. The way it’s become a fan favorite over these past few years has truly made me so happy.”
When the album was first released Horan described it as “nearly a concept album.”
Explaining that; “I wanted to write these songs from the start of a relationship through to the end – and from different sides – instead of every song being quite sad and all about me. Because when you go through a breakup, it's not sad all the time."
The two newly released songs “Dress” and “Nothing” feel like a perfect extension of this concept.
“Dress” is a slow reflective folk song that captures the bittersweet nostalgia of a past relationship. The song explores the idea of holding on to memories, wondering whether to let go or keep the past alive.
Horan’s vocals beautifully convey the heartbreak of the lyrics, capturing the devastation and regret in his voice. These are backed by piano, acoustic guitar, and strings, creating a gentle, folk-inspired sound.
"Nothing" is a passionate love song, taking on a more upbeat, pop-driven sound, offering a contrast to the softer tones of "Dress." The track features heavier production, but Horan’s vocals are equally passionate, declaring that “nothing” compares to the love he shares with his partner.
The anniversary edition also features live recordings of "Small Talk" and "Dear Patience" from Horan’s 2020 Royal Albert Hall performance, as well as an intimate Vevo Studio rendition of "Put A Little Love On Me." Fans can also hear a raw in-studio recording of "No Judgement" and stripped-down versions of "Nice To Meet Ya" and "Black and White."

While the digital version of the album is available now, fans will have to wait a little longer for physical editions. A CD and two-disc deluxe sea-blue and white splatter disc vinyl edition with an exclusive bonus track, "Everywhere – Live On Tour," will be released on August 15.
