Lunar Lagoon deliver a richly immersive release, blending restraint, atmosphere, and emotional depth with striking clarity.
Lunar Lagoon’s “Miles” arrives like a quiet surge, and after speaking with the project behind it, the layers beneath that calm surface start to reveal themselves.
There is something cinematic about how this song moves. It does not rush to impress or explode on impact. The track unfolds patiently, pulling the listener into a reflective headspace where motion exists without urgency and emotion lingers long after the final note fades.
Lunar Lagoon operates in this in-between world with intention. The sound leans into contrast, highs brushing against lows, light slipping into shadow, beauty carrying a quiet weight. Even the imagery tied to the project hints at descent and immersion, as if the music is less about escape and more about surrendering to the cycle itself. There is a hypnotic pull here that earns attention through honesty and careful construction.
What makes “Miles” especially compelling is how personal it is without being overstated. The song feels lived in, shaped by reflection rather than reaction. Each choice, from pacing to texture, seems rooted in the same core idea: sometimes growth is slow, sometimes the ground ahead is still unclear, and sometimes acknowledging that truth is the breakthrough.
After speaking with Lunar Lagoon, it became clear that this sense of depth is not accidental. Their creative process mirrors the themes in the music, embracing patience, collaboration, and trust in the long arc rather than the immediate result. “Miles” is not just a song, it is a snapshot of where they are and a signal of where they are heading.
Below, Lunar Lagoon opens up about the meaning behind “Miles,” the evolution of the project, and the emotional undercurrent driving their work forward.

Begin Interview:
Hello Lunar Lagoon, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. What is “Miles” about at its core, how did the song first take shape, and why did that word feel right as the title to carry its emotional weight?
A. “Miles” came from an early demo of this track, which had the repeating phrase “miles away”. Even though we removed this hook, the same theme remains within the track; the feeling of being miles off where you want to be but lacking the confidence to make that distance. Creating this track became almost therapeutic in exploring this, as completing it felt like tackling the themes of the song itself. Shortening the title to “Miles” felt right in the end, as it no longer felt like being miles off the mark, but still aware that there is ground yet to cover.
Q. The expression “If heat rises, then in coldness I descend; the lunar lagoon swallows me whole, again” is so striking. What were you trying to articulate with that, and where should it place the listener emotionally?
A. This came from an old poem I made years ago that eventually felt like a metaphor for the project itself. Exploring heights and depths is a key theme in our music, and we felt this phrase gives a good indication of what to expect when listening. Despite it feeling like a slightly grim quote, it feels more to us like a metaphor. Chasing the highs always brings the lows, and falling into this cycle will eventually swallow you up.
Q. “Miles” suggests motion without urgency. How intentional was that sense of pacing while shaping the track?
A. Hahaha it’s great that this translated across as this was something we really tried to encapsulate! Tying back to the meaning behind “Miles”, everything can feel like a rush, but sometimes you aren’t actually getting anywhere. As this was a key theme in the lyrics, it felt important to display this in the instrumentation as well.
Q. Lunar Lagoon began as a solo vision and naturally evolved into a shared one. How did that connection come into being, and did it ever feel like the project was meant to be built together from the start as if there were other forces in play?
A. Luke & I have worked in various other projects together over the past few years, and have always had a very similar outlook & creative process when it comes to music. It only felt right to expand on this, and it’s helped us bloom Lunar Lagoon into what it is. I think it’s important to accept things as they are, and Luke joining when he did means we’ve created the music as it is now, and we’re proud of what that’s become.
Q. What has collaboration opened up for you creatively that felt out of reach when the project lived in one head?
A. Working the tracks mainly as a solo artist always felt quite overwhelming, especially in the current climate of the music industry. Having Luke has been extremely helpful in not only pulling me out of the procrastination hole, but also giving me a lot more time to expand & work on the other important creative elements outside of the music itself.
Q. Live performance seems central to Lunar Lagoon. How does “Miles” transform its presentation of the music when it leaves the studio and enters a room full of people?
A. We try to place a lot of importance on translating our music live, whilst also giving it a different life of its own outside of the studio. Our current live band consists of two of our other best mates, Polly & Zac. Polly has been a long time collaborator with me on Lunar Lagoon, and Zac has also played with us in a previous band (Heir Traffic). They’ve both been a huge support for us in growing the songs.
Q. When the song ends, how do you hope “Miles” stays with listeners afterward?
A. Hopefully well enough to come back to it!
Q. As Lunar Lagoon moves forward, what do you hope remains constant, even as the sound and the people involved continue to grow?
A. Probably our outlook on creating the music in the first place. We’re very honest with our process & our main objective is to create what we love, and hopefully that can resonate with other people.
Q. The hypnotic effect the song has on the listener feels real and not performative suggesting both of you connect with the listener past the "medium" or exchange of sound. Have you heard this suggestion or comment before and is there any intention behind this energy or is it just a presence?
A. First of all, that's very kind - thank you! To be honest we’ve been a bit overwhelmed with the reception of the track so far, and are glad that we’ve managed to display how much effort & love we put into our music. Despite it being hard to let go & finally release our music, it helps a lot to know others are enjoying it too.
Q. What is the most unexpected sound or technique you used in this song that listeners might not catch at first?
A. This is the only song recorded/produced by us featuring live drums. For the rest of the tracks we use either breaks or samples, but felt this track needed the feel of a live drum kit. Big shoutouts Daniel Devlin (The Belair Lip Bombs) for helping us out with the drumming on this one!
Q. We can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what's next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We'd love the readers to hear the news directly from you!
A. Thanks for having us! We have some more new music coming very soon, and we can’t wait to start sharing it. Keep the faith! LL x
