Begin Interview:
Hello Kamal Morales, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more intrigued to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.
Q. For the fans meeting you for the first time, is Kamal Morales your given name or a stage name? What inspired you to choose that for your artist persona?
A. Kamal Morales is my given name, fun fact, I first came out as “KtheVocalist” where I released a full album called “Midnight Cowboy” haha! check that out to see my growth!
Q. Your debut single “SAUCY” starts off with such beautiful pianos -but is also bold, playful, and full of energy. What inspired this track, and what does it mean to you personally?
A. My Producer, Zent, makes the majority of the beautiful beats you get to hear from me. He gets my playful, fun and creative energy where people want to dance and jam to the beat. This track is a nod to my fun side. I am someone who loves to have fun but also SAAANNNGG.
Q. Where do you usually find yourself creating music? Do you have a go-to studio, or do songs come to life wherever you are?
A. Yes! My go-to studio is The Sonic Experience in Ridgewood! Shoutout to KG!
Q. Do you tend to create solo, or are there specific producers, writers, or musicians you love to collaborate with?
A. Yes! I have a dream team! My Producer, Zent. My Songwriter/In-studio Producer Ji and my Mixing/Mastering and Recording Engineer KG! We typically create while in the studio or I would get a beat from Zent and send it straight to Ji and then we all are at the studio creating the magic! Trust me… They push me to make sure the song is RIGHT!
I also have a ten-piece band where i’ll ask them or some favorite musicians to hop on my track to add more!
Q. You’ve become a staple in NYC’s indie circuit, playing iconic venues like Pianos and The Sultan Room. How has performing live in such vibrant spaces shaped your approach to songwriting and storytelling? Do you change anything about how you present the song when performing live?
A. This is a great question! Performing live has shown me that I want to make music that resonates with people’s souls. I want them to think about the lyrics I am singing or the harmonies they hear because it serves a purpose. When I perform the songs live I tend to add in a lot of crowd participation in order make them feel like they are IN the song.
Q. “SAUCY” oozes confidence and personality. If it were the soundtrack to a movie scene, what would that scene look like, and who would be starring in it?
A. The scene would be two lovers who avoid each other the entire movie who now realize that they love each other at a party. This song comes on and reminds them to have fun. Be joyful and do a little “2 steps to right and DROP” HAHA!
Q. What does making music do for you emotionally? How does it feel when you’re in that creative flow?
A. Saucy makes me forget where I am and what is bothering me. It reminds me to continue to create with the emotions. This is how my creative flow happens because I am able, with the help of my “Dream Team” figure out what I am trying to say and how to get there.
Q. Now that “SAUCY” is out and the full album is on the horizon, how would you describe where you are in your creative evolution? What are you most excited about sharing next?
A. My creative evolution is at a point where I am allowing myself to create different sounds and trust that it will all go together. I have been a lead singer in about 4-5 different wedding companies over the past couple of years and I’ve learned a lot about what type of music I like. For example I LOVE Country and Rock. Growing up i’ve only listened to R&B and Gospel, this love for music has shaped my music into sounding better and being more in-depth musically.
