Jackson Witcham unveils "Goodbye," a heartfelt anthem of letting go and embracing new beginnings

Rising artist Jackson Witcham, hailing from Kelowna, BC, Canada, delivers a powerful narrative with his latest release, "Goodbye." This track is more than just a song—it's an anthem for anyone who has felt the weight of their past and longs for a fresh start. Witcham invites listeners into his world as he shares the transformative experience of walking away from an old life to embrace sobriety and the joy of creating art for its own sake.

Reflecting on his journey, Witcham says, “I wrote ‘Goodbye’ during a pivotal time in my life. It represents not only the end of a chapter but also the beginning of something beautiful. It’s about shedding the layers that held me back and finally expressing myself authentically.” These themes of renewal, sobriety, and finding one’s true voice echo throughout his artistic evolution, making "Goodbye" a true statement of resilience and self-discovery.

Produced by Jordan Chase at Oodelaly Studios, the track captures the rawness of Witcham’s journey, turning his introspection into a musical experience that resonates deeply. "Goodbye" is a testament to the liberation that comes from embracing change, leaving the past behind, and stepping into the light of new beginnings.

We had the chance to catch up with Jackson Witcham for an exclusive interview in "The Cage" Music Blog.

Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview:

Hello Jackson Witcham, we’re thrilled to have you for this interview! We’ve had a blast diving into your music and exploring your work, and now we’re even more excited to learn more about you, both as an artist, and as a person.

Is your stage name your given name and what led you to choose this method of connecting your artistry with fans?

Jackson: It is a stage name, and not my given name. There is already a far more famous relative with my last name out there in the same genre, so I wanted as much separation there as possible.

How did writing "Goodbye" feel emotionally, and how did it help you move forward?

Jackson: When I got sober I walked away from a lot of people and situations. This was my way of saying goodbye to them.

What advice would you give someone struggling with their own personal renewal or sobriety journey?

Jackson: If you want to change your life, you first have to change yourself. You cannot live a different life without first being a different person.

How has creating art for its own sake changed your perspective on success?

Jackson: It was very hard in the beginning of writing this record. I knew that I didn’t want to continue making heavy, aggressive music but I didn’t know what direction to take that in. So for the first time I just started writing for the sake of writing, and it ended up coming out as what I’m releasing. I also have never sang on any of my own records previous to this, so that was another big change for me. I feel that creating now from a place of authenticity and truth is far more important to me than any material outcome.

How did working with Jordan Chase at Oodelaly Studios shape the final sound of “Goodbye"?

Jackson: Jordan and I have been very close friends for many many years. We’ve played in multiple other music projects together, and still continue to do so. It made sense that he’d be the one to help me get these ideas out onto a record and his ability to capture the sound and dynamics the way I like is always perfect.

How does "Goodbye" fit into your broader artistic journey and exploration of renewal?

Jackson: It’s the first release of 12, which I will be putting out one a month going forward from this release. I was going to release an album, but I liked the idea of having an ongoing releasing process.

What impact do you hope "Goodbye" has on others who are also in the process of finding their true voice?

Jackson: If you have something to say, find a way to say it. Do it for yourself, and don’t even consider what other people will think or say. If you feel it, and you love what you’ve made, that is all that matters.

What are the main challenges you face as a solo artist, and how do the benefits of working independently compare?

Jackson: This is my first time releasing music without a label behind me and the multiple avenues of support that come with that. I will say that releasing music in today’s culture is wildly different than I’m used to.

What instrument do you use as the foundation to start your musical creations with?

Jackson: Everything on this record started with an acoustic guitar. Then slowly built off of that by myself at my home studio. Everything on the records is me.

What part of the music-making process is the most stressful, ie the creation, the actual release date, etc.?

Jackson: Definitely the administrative work around releasing the material. The ad campaigns, distribution, all the back end of releasing your art can be daunting and take a lot of the fun of the creation out of it as a whole.

What is your favorite song to cover?

Jackson: Ebb and Flow by The Dead Tongues.

Most people love or hate social media, where do you land?

Jackson: I’m not a huge fan, I understand the need of it to promote, and it is a great tool for discovering new artists.

When you reach the stage where you have the admiration and respect of other world-known artists, what band or artist would you love to call and say, “Let’s go on tour together”?

Jackson: City and Colour. Dallas Green is and always will be one of my favourite artists.
