We had the chance to experience the latest release by Juha-Matti Tepponen, aka Del'Noire, titled "Tyler Down," and it was truly refreshing to hear a unique perspective in music.
Del'Noire is a driving force, creating with an intensity and passion that radiates from every aspect of their artistry.
Upon reading about the origins of this song, we were immediately intrigued. Great music often stems from pain and serves as a vessel for healing, making it profoundly relatable. Anyone who has endured hardship and seeks a non-pharmaceutical means of solace will find resonance in Del'Noire’s work. Music is layered, and this artist contributes to many of those layers, not just as a performer but as the producer, mixer, mastering engineer, and cover art creator. Self-described as a “master of their own art,” Del'Noire ensures that every element aligns cohesively, drawing the listener into an immersive world where music becomes deeply personal.
Del'Noire shared with us that "Tyler Down" is a song about emotions, trauma, and recovery. Inspired by the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, particularly the character Tyler Down, Del'Noire explained:
"He’s a young boy who endures severe bullying and physical abuse. Even though he’s a fictional character, his story hit me hard. It was a wake-up call because things like that happen way too often in real life. But even after the worst experiences, recovery is possible. That’s the heart of my version of Tyler’s story: recovery. 'Tyler Down' has everything that makes a Del'Noire song—melody, melancholy, and those signature minor chords—but it’s also energetic and danceable, bringing together the contrast of pain and resilience. However, in my story, Tyler is a girl. But it’s all the same, no matter if you’re a boy or a girl. A man or a woman. We all hurt. And heal."
Wow! Understanding the backstory behind this artist’s creative vision allows you to fully immerse yourself in the song’s narrative, sound, and resolution. Listening to "Tyler Down" is a cathartic experience, one that empowers and fills the mind with a sense of overcoming adversity. The opening beat is both firm and smooth, with a slight drag, evoking the pulse of a heartbeat and the adrenaline coursing through our veins. There’s an unmistakable sensation of running, perhaps fleeing from something, but ultimately toward freedom.
As the pianos enter, they shimmer delicately beneath the surface, restrained, much like suppressed emotions. They flutter with an airy, weightless quality, and their speed is both breathtaking and mesmerizing. This section of the song is particularly striking, as the rapidity of the notes showcases an impressive technical skill. Then, with a sudden shift, the beat grows more forceful and rhythmic, as though we've broken into a steady stride. The pianos transition into a surging, galloping motion, interwoven with sustained drum patterns that hint at an impending moment of joy.
As the track progresses, the pianos become more pronounced, commanding and hammering, as if delivering a message. Just when we settle into this dynamic performance, intermittent pounding keys and a brief interlude emerge, carrying immense weight. The return of the main composition feels even more impactful than its initial introduction. The pianist repeatedly reinforces the song’s rhythm, momentarily stripping it back before rebuilding the intensity. The interplay between twinkling piano notes and the beat creates a sense of anticipation, leading to a climactic crescendo. As the beat strikes with resounding force, it feels like we are rising to the crest of a wave, about to crash into something powerful and transformative.
At this moment, the pianos become almost erratic, shimmering and booming with an unstoppable momentum. The sheer force behind them is exhilarating. It evokes the sensation of triumph, like the climax of a cinematic underdog story, a Rocky Balboa moment where victory is finally within reach. It’s astonishing how the tempo, tone, and intricacy of piano and drum compositions can elicit such visceral emotions.
Del’Noire’s meticulous craftsmanship is even more impressive upon learning that they engineered the track themselves. The final production is crisp and articulate, providing a robust foundation that highlights every instrumental detail with clarity. The arrangement as a whole contributes to a harmonious and fluid listening experience.
We believe Del'Noire is poised to fill a void in the music world, crafting songs that are engineered for deeply emotional individuals who seek more than just sound. This is music with a message, one that transforms, heals, and inspires. An exceptional listening experience!
