“Progress” by Two-Man Giant Squid. They don’t give a shit if you like it or not because if you don’t… you suck. (and we mean that with all due respect- or we don’t)
Here’s a band that instantly tells you without telling you they make their music in the mirror (for the slow or possibly high - it means it’s for their own enjoyment) and those songs are always the most unique, badass, and unfiltered creations. With layered guitars and screaming vocals that would draw the biggest wallflowers from the back right up to the center of the stage, this band has magnetic energy in a recorded track that transcends right into your speakers making you instantly want to know them personally.
“Progress” is to me a lyrical explanation of how spinning rat wheels in life and the bullshit laid on us that this band just won’t allow you to shovel at them. “2 steps forward and 2 steps back is progress … it’s progress” and they want you to know if this is you, you are persona non grata in their eyes, so fuck off! My initial listen gave me the feeling it was about our shitty and bullshit political culture where doing something that creates nothing (but costs millions) is sold to the masses as progress. To segue into the song, the music arrangement is heavy and aggressive. The guitars in this give me Lee’s Sonic Youth fuck you we do what we wanna vibes. The rolling strings and chanting with the beats just make me want to stage dive into the crowd. The vocals are just pure perfection and yet also could be compared to the sound tires make when going up into a parking structure…. loud, raw, and perfectly imperfect. They gave me chills and I loved them, so if you want Broadway …this may not be for you, but if you need a break from "color in the lines music, " this song is definitely a playlist add.
